Stockfish FAQ

About The Forums

1. What forum system do you use?

None! The Stockfish forum system was written from scratch the ground up. Some of the layout is inspired by the Whirlpool Forum, which I believe is one of the most user friendly forum systems on the net.

For the technically minded, the forum was written in PHP. It uses AJAX calls in various places, and all the data is stored in a MySQL database.

2. Can I use your forum system?

No, sorry. I don't have time to support it properly.

Post Formatting

1. How do I format my posts

You can use either Whirlcode Tags or basic html tags (<b>,<p>,<i>).

2. Whats Whirlcode?

Whirlcode is a post formatting language developed by Simon Wright over at the Whirlpool Forums. It is used on this site with his permission (thanks mate!).

3. How do I insert a link?

All you need to do is copy the link into your post. Stockfish will automatically detect it, and convert it into a link.

4. How do I insert a photo?

Just paste the image location into your post. Stockfish will find it, and turn it into an image. Be careful! if you post large images (say, 1024 wide or bigger) you will anger a lot of people on slow connections. If you want it to be turned into link to the image instead, then unclick the "Convert Image Links to Images" box when you post.

Forums

1. What secret forums are there?

There are only 2. The first is the moderators lounge, where moderators may clarify rules, or report moderation problems. The second is the very boring deleted threads forum.

2. How do I suggest a new feature?

Post a thread in the Forum Feedback forum.

3. Why are there no avatars?

Avatars would take up a lot of space and they tend to look pretty messy. If enough people want avatars, I will add them in (along with an option to hide them).

4. Why does it say "bait" next to my name?

Users with under 20 posts get the user title "bait". It will change to something more interesting when you get more posts. Note that it may take 24 hours to update

5. Everything is in EST time!

Sorry, I haven't had time to add time zone support yet!

6. What does the "ignore" function do?

It hides all threads and posts from you by the ignored user. It also prevents them from sending you messages.

7. What does the "reverse ignore" function do?

It hides all of your posts and threads from that user. This is useful if you don't want someone benefitting from your posts, or harassing you because of them.

1. Can I be a mod?

No, sorry. I don't need any more at the moment.
